inside movement

with Johanna Ackva

For the 2nd edition of Share Your Practice!, artist, choreographer and performer Johanna Ackva will host a series of movement-based research labs.

Being part of Johanna’s education as a somatic movement educator of Body-Mind Centering®, each session will be looking at a different anatomical system or part of the body (such as: the spine; ear + hearing + balance; feet to pelvis connections; skin; etc.). Through these different focal points we will practice both interoception (awareness of what is moving inside one’s body) as well as to sense movement as a flow around and between us, a flow we can tap into or lean onto, stir and explore together as a group. The goal is to find interest and ease in movement and to have an experience with ourselves and the group. We will use movement, anatomical images, and hands-on exercises in pairs or smaller groups.

The sessions are open to people with any level of experience in dance or somatics. You can join once or come to all of them. Bring comfortable clothes, socks if you don’t want to be barefoot, and pen and paper to write or draw. Participation is donation-based.

Johanna Ackva (*1989) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work blends movement practices and anthropological research methods.
In the past years, Johanna’s performative, written and sometimes sculptural work has been accompanied by a studio practice of combining sensing, moving and sense-making, mostly through physical improvisation, at times including the voice or spoken word. Since 2016, Johanna has realised several often collaborative projects in theatres, galleries, churches, public spaces and on paper. Johanna works as a dancer/performer, amongst others for Isabelle Schad and Netta Weiser.
She is a guest lecturer at the Studium Generale of UdK Berlin and strongly connected to Libken as a host and cultural organiser, most recently of the residency program into the fields.
