about into the fields
«into the fields» is an interdisciplinary residency program conceived by Johanna Ackva, and implemented and mentored in collaboration with Anna Bartholdy and Judith Milz. The program «into the fields» is supported by Culture Moves Europe, the permanent mobility scheme funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut.

Sophie Innmann
"The residency in Libken was entitled «into the fields». I took this at its word and went on extensive forays through the landscape shaped by the Ice Age. Always with me: binoculars, camera and audio recorder."

Belia Brückner
Throughout her residency, Brückner deepened her investigation into how food and communal dining intersect with politics and culture. Simultaneously, she expanded her ongoing project of corresponding with political prisoners worldwide to gather "recipes of freedom".

Markéta Fagan
During my time at Libken, I very much enjoyed dancing with the bee colonies on the property. I loved reading in the library in the morning, and taking long walks to the different forests around the area in the afternoon. I became very fascinated with the hunting towers that are scattered around the fields, and slowly formed a shared 'hunting practice' with Jitka Králová, another artist from the residency. Probably the most rewarding part of the two months was getting to bond with the six other artists - all women - through cooking dinners, practicing yoga, watching movies, swimming, and having late-night thought provoking discussions together.

Jitka Králová
During my two months in Libken, I appreciated very much the proximity of the lake and the surrounding nature, but most of all the company of other artists with whom I could share this time. I devoted myself to exploring the surrounding fields and soon discovered the main objects of my fascination: the glacier depressions and the really dense network of hunting towers. The wetland pits with wild growth that defy economic use and create opportunities for shelter, contrasted with the hunting towers representing control and power, provided me with a wide playing field. In collaboration with another artist in residence, Markéta Fagan, we developed our own "hunting practice", exploring further layers of this theme in a series of actions and interventions.

My artistic practice stems from an acceptance of transience. I harness my hyperactivity and calm my inner extremes, creating balanced, participatory art that influences the quality of my personal and social life. My reflections are based on observations that I analyze in a broader, global context, trying to universalize them as a platform for shared experiences. I create a kind of participatory art_chronicles that are a testimony to the era, but also give me the opportunity to get to know myself better. I care about activities that make a meaningful contribution to improving the quality of life, even if they are carried out on a micro scale around me.

Archive of Color is an ongoing artistic research project in which I document colors derived from local plants. I collect both wild and cultivated species, extract pigments from them, and create samples on recycled textiles. Rather than following botanical classifications, I focus on an intuitive experience of each plant - its color, scent, and connection to place. The project began in Libken during my residency and will continue to evolve in new locations. The outcome will be a series of site-specific publications that may also serve as tools for other creators. The booklet, featuring samples from the surroundings of Libken, exists in only two copies - one remains in the Libken library, and the other I brought with me to Poland.

Lenka Holíková
Culinary Crossroads is an ongoing project by Lenka Holíková and Eryca Willinger. It brings together individuals who have arrived in Templin from diverse parts of the world for a series of culinary gatherings. Hosted in a communal kitchen provided by Stephanus Stiftung, these gatherings serve as spaces of hospitality, exchange, and collective creation. Participants share their stories of displacement, adaptation, and rebuilding home, using food as a means of communication and a way to reclaim identity. Lenka’s illustrations play a role in visualizing these shared experiences, with vibrant artworks that reflect both the recipes and the personal memories of the participants. The project will culminate in an illustrated multilingual publication, featuring recipes, autobiographical fragments, and handwritten notes, alongside Lenka’s illustrations. This publication will not only document the gatherings but also offer a replicable methodology for similar events in other communities.
