Showcase – as part of the Open Studios Brandenburg
For the first time in five years, Libken will participate again in 2024 with its showcase as part of the Open Studios Brandenburg. Paintings, textile art, and an installation can be seen in the former waterworks and on the grounds.
The showcase features works by artists who are active at Libken or closely connected to the space.
Jonas Johannes’ almost invisible interventions, subtle and humorous gestures, are driven by skepticism towards the artwork as a product with commercial value. To allow art to take place, he often opens a door to in-between spaces that are not already institutionally or commercially claimed. He uses the shifting of materials as a technique of “adding nothing,” questioning prevailing economies of the material and of perception.
With her large-scale fabric collages installed outdoors, Bettina Mileta encourages a different perception of textiles. Her textile installations assertively occupy the space: they contrast with their surroundings, are colorful, move in the wind, and claim the field. At Libken, they playfully integrate into the site’s infrastructure, draping over clotheslines and covering the gray concrete.
Andreas Steffen navigates in his paintings the tipping point between representational and abstract worlds. In his images, multiple perspectives on the same landscape mix, strict composition and graphic elements enter a contrasting dance with gestural applications of color. The colorful canvases invite viewers to wander between dimensions and discover hidden details.
Johanna Ackva’s artistic practice revolves around the interconnections between physical and so-called metaphysical movements. Her works explore the mutual influences between body and mind, the living and the dead, the world and our perception of it. As a dancer, writer, and educator, she is mainly active in Berlin. In the Uckermark, she is part of the team running the Libken space for thinking and production.
Throughout a weekend of vibrant colors, waving flags, subtle gestures, and sounds, the Bar Paradieschen will serve delicious drinks with and without alcohol, as well as homemade ice lollies. On Saturday evening, Konrad Walkow will provide pizza, and you can dance to lively music.
In addition to art to look at, Sunday offers a reading (2 PM), time to relax in the garden, and the aroma of coffee and cake. We look forward to your visit!
